"The Nature Boy" Ric Flair & Gordon Solie

Georgia Championship Wrestling — Original Ditch-Cat Photo Print

The Bios

Ric Flair — "The Nature Boy" — is a wrestling icon whose career spans over 50 years. A 16-time world champion and co-founder of the legendary Four Horsemen faction, Flair's combination of flamboyant style, in-ring excellence, and unforgettable catchphrases made him one of the most recognizable figures in the history of professional wrestling. After a devastating plane crash in 1975 that broke his back in three places and left doctors convinced his career was over, Flair defied every prediction — returning to the ring just six months later and eventually reinventing himself as the sleek, technical "Nature Boy" the world would come to know. Designer suits, outlandish robes, and shoes that cost more than your house — along with the title belts to match. Wooooo. Biographyfinder + 2

Gordon Solie was the most recognized professional wrestling announcer of his era — known as the "Dean of Wrestling," the "Walter Cronkite of Wrestling," and the "Howard Cosell of Wrestling." As host of Superstation TBS's Georgia Championship Wrestling from 1973 through 1984, Solie was easily the most famous and respected announcer in professional wrestling — the voice that lent legitimacy to every promo, every title change, every moment of chaos in the ring. His ringside interviews with the grapplers revolutionized the way wrestling shows were produced. He passed away on July 27, 2000, but his voice remains inseparable from the golden era of Southern wrestling. Find a Grave + 2

This photograph captures both legends in their natural habitat — the Georgia Championship Wrestling desk — the Nature Boy holding court while Solie looks on. An original Ditch-Cat Photo print, straight from the negative.
