Bronco Lubich & Aldo Bogni with Manager "Colonel" Homer O'Dell

NWA Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling — Original Ditch-Cat Photo Print

The Bio

Bronco Lubich and Aldo Bogni were veteran heels competing in regional NWA territories throughout Canada, the Pacific Northwest, the Midwest, and the Southeastern United States during the 1960s — and they were particularly active in the Charlotte area, where they became one of the most despised tag teams in the territory. Fandom

Lubich, born Bronko Sandor Lupsity on Christmas Day 1925 in Hungary, was billed from Belgrade, Yugoslavia — a foreign heel persona perfectly tailored to draw heat from American crowds. His partner Aldo Bogni, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1915, was a powerhouse billed at 6'3" and 261 pounds who brought a genuine menace to every match they worked. WikipediaWikipedia

The duo were paired at the recommendation of promoter Jim Crockett Sr., with their personas portraying hostile foreign wrestlers. They were joined by manager "Colonel" Homer O'Dell, who quickly helped make them one of the top heel acts in the territory. O'Dell reportedly carried a revolver and would fire it behind the arena after events to scatter fans who waited outside to confront his men. Wikipedia

"The thing about Aldo and Bronco was their heel foreign gimmick that was made that much more effective by Homer in their corner. Real heat magnets," recalled Charleston, S.C. reporter Mike Mooneyham, who grew up watching them. Slam Wrestling

The duo feuded with some of the biggest names of the era, clashing with The Flying Scotts, George Becker & Johnny Weaver, Rip Hawk & Swede Hanson, Lars & Ole Anderson, and Mr. Wrestling & Sam Steamboat. This photograph captures all three — Lubich, Bogni, and O'Dell — together in a rare backstage moment, preserved by Ditch-Cat Photo and printed directly from the original negative. Grokipedia
